Title: Assessment and Moderation Lead  
Reports to: Quality Assurance and Programme Development Manager  
Location: Auckland

Role Purpose:
The role of the Assessment and Moderation Lead is key to ensuring that assessment methodology, approach and practice is fair, valid, consistent, appropriate and robust, to demonstrate that the learning outcomes of programmes have been met and ensuring that graduates have ultimately met the relevant graduate profile.

Programme Management
Coordinate the pre-moderation of all new assessments including modifications of old assessments. 
• Coordinate resources necessary for all programmes and coordinate and lead an on-going process of continuous and integrated resource development
• Support programme and professional development days across campuses to continually improve and develop assessments
• Provide support to the Quality Assurance and Programme Development team by providing input into the development of new and revised programmes
• When required, contribute research and assist in the development of central resources/assessments for new and existing programmes that will promote teaching and assessment excellence
• Drive the implementation of e-learning strategies through developing new programme assessment models
• Co-ordinate external moderation, monitor feedback 

Key Performance Indicators

Maintain thorough understanding and knowledge of all NZMA programmes of study
Resource/assessment developments are responsive to an emergent issue, project or part of a planned change in programme delivery.
All resources are technically accurate and support NZMA and NZQA requirements

Academic Programme Process 

• Support tutor understanding of moderation processes in practice throughout the organisation – coordinate with Programme Leaders and Heads of Faculty to deliver on this.
• Drive and support the implementation of the moderation processes (pre and post) through Programme Leaders and Heads of Faculty at each Campus.
• Support tutor understanding of good assessment practice, processes and requirements
• Support the assessment process through providing resources, updating assessment versions and updating course planners for Heads of Faculty, Programme Leaders and Tutors to deliver and assess
• Coordinate with Heads of Faculty and Programme Leaders to monitor standards of assessment, analyse the feedback and provide areas of academic support identified 

Key Performance Indicators
  • Internal moderation processes completed on schedule, with a high level of accuracy
  • Assessment processes – completed to agreed deadlines, using prescribed assessment documents
  • Feedback to assessors is timely
Academic leadership

• Act as an ambassador for NZMA at all times and perform the duties of the position in accordance with the organisations core values.
• Act as a role model for tutors within NZMA, ensure that  behaviour, conduct, appearance, attitude and dress are of the required standard

To be successful you will have:

• Minimum qualifications – level 5 Certificate in Adult Teaching, including unit standard 11551, 11552 and 11280
• Demonstrated successful assessment writing and moderation skills
• Demonstrated knowledge of the New Zealand education industry and especially the tertiary sector 
• A degree qualification in education or in one of the current teaching disciplines that NZMA offers for study is preferred but not essential
• Proven ability to set high goals for personal and group accomplishment, along with experience in measuring results and monitor progress in achievement
• Experience in working within a multi-cultural environment and connecting with a local community– preferably Maori/Pacific Island and/or international students.  Interested and excited about cultural diversity and developing relationships within a community
• Demonstrated commitment to represent and be a strong advocate for students
• High level of interpersonal, communication and presentation skills. 
• Personal integrity, trustworthiness and credibility
• Passionate about individual, team and organisational learning – authentic desire to support the success of others
• Self-starter with a high level of energy, drive and motivation, and the ability to focus these into achievement of identified accountabilities and targets
